RotoShear was purchased in 2015 from the original inventor and manufacturer, Merlin Badry, and is now owned and manufactured by Free Form Plastic Products a division of Bourgault Industries. We purchased RotoShear because it is a simple and very effective product that has shown that it exceeds all others in its market segment which is our goal with all of the products that we design and manufacture.
RotoShear continues to be a family owned and manufactured in Canada and is well known as a high quality vertical crop cutter adaptable to all swather and combine header boards. RotoShear was developed in partnership with local producers, and extensively field tested to bring you the best product possible.
RotoShear is the brain-child of Merlin Badry, a farmer turned business owner and entrepreneur serving the agricultural community in Forestburg, Alberta, Canada. RotoShear is the result of collaboration with local producers who were frustrated with existing reciprocal and chain-based products on the market. With a love of design and a keen eye for problem solving, Merlin was eager to take on the challenge. The first RotoShear prototype was field tested in 1999.
For the past 18 years the RotoShear vertical crop cutter has been rapidly changing the experience of canola and lodged crop harvesting for producers across Canada, the USA and in overseas markets.
Merlin Badry has an instinct for inventing practical solutions to common problems. As a young boy on his family’s farm in Alberta, he once disappeared into the shed to emerge soon after with a simple device that made short work of the hours of weeding he was responsible for in the family’s large garden plot. This ingenuity and initiative continues to distinguish his career as a businessman and entrepreneur as he works in partnership with farmers to solve problems with ideas that are simple, functional and durable.
